How to Migrate DocRead from SharePoint 2016 to SharePoint 2019<\/h1>\n

Note: <\/strong>The information in this post relates to DocRead for on-premises SharePoint only<\/strong>.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

If you are considering migrating your SharePoint 2016 Farm to SharePoint 2019 then please read through this article<\/a> for steps on how to achieve this. Before proceeding, it\u2019s important that you read \u2018migrating between editions<\/a>\u2018 to understand how this affects your DocRead and DocSurvey licensing.<\/p>\n

DocRead SharePoint 2016 to 2019 migration step by step instructions are as follows:<\/p>\n

Preparing your SharePoint 2016 Farm:<\/h2>\n

It is important to know that we only support migrations that have followed Microsoft\u2019s recommended approach. Please read through these instructions on Microsoft’s Documentation site<\/a> to understand how to upgrade. Please note: we don\u2019t support migrations that have been completed using custom code, or by using 3rd party migration tools such as those offered by AvePoint and Metalogix.<\/p>\n

Before you start the migration:<\/h3>\n

Before you start the migration you will need to download the latest version of DocRead. It\u2019s very important that you are migrating from one version of DocRead to another with the same build number. (e.g ‘v4.0’). If you aren\u2019t running the latest version of DocRead on SharePoint 2016 you will need to carry out an upgrade which is detailed in section 6 of the System Administrators Guide found in our Documentation Centre<\/a>. Once you have completed the upgrade \u2013 it\u2019s important to test DocRead to ensure that it is still fully operational and working as expected on SharePoint 2016.<\/p>\n

Migration Steps (Central Admin):<\/h3>\n

1. Complete the build and testing of your new SharePoint 2019 Farm.<\/p>\n

2. Follow the instructions on the DocRead System Administrator’s guide<\/a> to Install DocRead on your SharePoint 2019 farm but stop at step 2.5<\/strong>. Do not proceed to section 2.6  of the Administrator’s Guide at this stage (Administration and Initial Database Set Up)<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Attach and upgrade all of the SharePoint content databases that DocRead was used on previously (please refer to the Microsoft guide<\/a>).<\/p>\n

4. If you are using SharePoint Global Audiences with DocRead it\u2019s also necessary to migrate your User Profile Service App and Metadata Service App which is detailed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5. Once this is complete, please test that your Farm is operational and specifically ensure that the Site Collections, Webs, Libraries \/ Lists, Groups, Audiences and Documents now exist with the same content as they had for SharePoint 2016.<\/p>\n

6. Do a full back-up your SharePoint 2019 Farm.<\/p>\n

7. Back-up your 2016 DocRead database and restore it to the SQL Server that is part of your 2019 farm. Make a note of the Database name and Server Name.<\/p>\n

8. On your 2019 farm, navigate to Central Admin > Collaboris Settings > Database Settings and enter the \u2018SQL Server\u2019 and \u2018Database Name\u2019 that you noted in the step above. Click \u2018Ok\u2019.<\/p>\n

9. On your 2019 farm, navigate to Central Admin > Collaboris Settings > Licensing and enter your license key and click \u2018Add\u2019. Click \u2018Ok\u2019.<\/p>\n

10. On your 2019 farm navigate to Central Admin > Collaboris Settings > Global Settings and add all of the Web Applications that contain sites where DocRead is activate. (Please note, even if they appear to look the same, it\u2019s important to remove all and re-add them as the internal ID\u2019s will differ). Click \u2018Ok\u2019.<\/p>\n

11. Install the Collaboris Notification Scheduler in the new SharePoint farm by following the steps in section 2.9 of the DocRead System Administrator’s guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Post Migration Steps (Central Admin):<\/h3>\n

1. Perform a ‘Process Reading Tasks’ in each DocRead enabled web and ensure that all the tasks are present as before.<\/p>\n

2. Configure the DocRead Scheduler as specified in the Installation Guide.<\/p>\n

3. Schedule a regular backup of the DocRead database.<\/p>\n
