{"id":240,"date":"2014-12-15T15:03:40","date_gmt":"2014-12-15T15:03:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/collaboriscom.wpengine.com\/?p=240"},"modified":"2022-07-15T14:27:49","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T14:27:49","slug":"why-arent-line-manager-reports-working","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.collaboris.com\/why-arent-line-manager-reports-working\/","title":{"rendered":"Why aren\u2019t Line Manager Reports working?"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<h1>Why aren\u2019t Line Manager Reports working?<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The information in this post relates to DocRead for <strong>on-premises SharePoint only<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As of version DocRead 2.0 we introduced some really cool functionality to allow Line Managers to :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get notified (via email) when an employees required reading becomes\u00a0<strong>overdue\u00a0<\/strong>(or optionally\u00a0<strong>assigned<\/strong>\u00a0and\/or\u00a0<strong>completed<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>View 3 new Reports showing a break down of the status of all their employees require reading progress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For a variety of reasons the Line Manager functionality may not work and here are some things to help troubleshoot :<\/p>\n<p><strong>The &#8216;Manager&#8217; field in Active Directory isn&#8217;t configured.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your organization uses Active Directory and you also synchronize the user properties (including Manager) to the SharePoint User Profile, then it&#8217;s essential to ensure that the &#8216;Manager field&#8217; is populated within AD&#8217; :<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/line-management-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.collaboris.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/line-management-1.png\" alt=\"line-management-1\" width=\"429\" height=\"549\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The &#8216;Manager&#8217; property isn&#8217;t update in the SharePoint User Profile<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DocRead will look at the &#8216;Manager&#8217; field within each SharePoint User Profile. If this value is empty this prevents DocRead from synchronizing it&#8217;s own database.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/manager-user-profile-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.collaboris.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/manager-user-profile-2.png\" alt=\"manager-user-profile-2\" width=\"717\" height=\"483\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The &#8216;Audiences Synchronization&#8217; Timer job isn&#8217;t running<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When this SharePoint Timer job\u00a0runs, the Manager is extracted from each SharePoint User Profile. If the job doesn&#8217;t run, DocRead will never get updated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/manage-user-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.collaboris.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/manage-user-3.png\" alt=\"manage-user-3\" width=\"839\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>You don&#8217;t use Active Directory<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you use a different membership database, then you must ensure that it synchronizes the &#8216;Manager&#8217; into the SharePoint User Profile. If you don&#8217;t use User Profiles, then please read &#8216;<a href=\"\/how-to-sync-the-ad-line-manager-to-docread-using-powershell\/\">How to sync the AD Line Manager to DocRead using Powershell<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You are using SharePoint Foundation or don&#8217;t populate the SharePoint User Profile.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you use SharePoint Foundation then there is no User Profile. So when the &#8216;Audience Synchronization&#8217; Timer Job runs, it won&#8217;t be able to gather the &#8216;Manager&#8217; information. In this situation you will need to develop and schedule a custom Powershell script to populate the &#8216;Manager&#8217; within DocRead.
